I have been asked MANY times what is the best diet for a chow chow and in all honesty I simply cannot answer that one.
Many breeders and owners have their own methods and the list below is OUR chows own weekly diet and should NOT be seen as nutritional advice from us.
This is OUR method only and is now serving our chows well.
Tripe is the first thing a wild dog eats when it makes a kill. Tripe is the stomach lining. Tripe produces healthy dogs, bigger litters, and smaller vet bills. With tripe you will see results in days. You can forget supplements, stick with natural dog food. Tripe also has a perfect balance of Calcium and Potassium which is needed for good bones and joints and development in general, a sample of green tripe was analysed by Woodson-Tenent Laboratories, Inc. in Gainesville, Georgia.
The results for sample# G97-16346 are as follows:
- · Moisture 71.37%
- · Crude Fat 11.70%
- · Protein 15.82%
- · Ash 1.23%
- · Phosphorous 0.14%
- · Calcium 0.12%
- · Calories 756.35 cal/lb.
- · pH 6.12
- · Lactic Acid Bacteria 12,000 CFU/G
- · Linoleic Acid (EFA) 2.72%
- · Linolenic Acid (EFA) 0.37%

Daily supplements are:
1 capsule of fish oil complex to help with muscle and joints.
1 capsule of glucosamine and chondroitin Glucosamine occurs naturally in the body and helps maintain connective tissues. Chondroitin is also found naturally in your joints where it helps your body attract fluid in to the cartilage, acting rather like the human equivalent of a car's shock absorber for your limbs. The two ingredients work together perfectly to provide an optimum joint formulation.

On a monthly basis we add raw chopped spinach to their meals for 5 days in a row.
OUR EXPERIENCE has PROVEN this invaluable against hot spots and various skin complaints as well as itchy coats.
Our chows rarely, if ever suffer with Hot Spots anymore.

As already stated, THIS IS OUR DIET FOR OUR CHOWS AND SHOULD NOT BE SEEN AS NUTRITIONAL ADVICE IN GENERAL.
Some may say this is too varied, too much or even too little, BUT it works for our chows pure and simple.
They are happy and healthy, maintain their weights without going over, keeps them agile and active when they feel it necessary, and sleep all night without disturbance.
