I have been asked MANY times what is the best diet for a chow chow and in all honesty I simply cannot answer that one.
Many breeders and owners have their own methods and the list below is OUR chows own weekly diet and should NOT be seen as nutritional advice from us.
This is OUR method only and has served us well for a long long time now.
We prefer the James Wellbeloved range of kibbles purely because they take out all the CRAP that ALWAYS goes into cheaper brands. These dried kibbles have the following extracted: Beef, wheat, soya, gluten, dairy products, eggs etc. and in there place are added nutritional BENEFITS.
Turkey offers white meat in sufficient quantities so as not to overwhelm the dogs system. It is gentle on their stomach’s and easily digestible. Duck offers mild dark meat in sufficient quantities so as not to overwhelm the system. Easily digested too Brown and Pearl Rice which is highly digestible source of carbohydrate and again gentle on the stomach Oats which is an energy cereal with soluble fiber Linseed Oil which is rich in omega-3 fatty acids Sugar Beet is a natural provider of dietary fiber which is good for intestinal health Alfalfa is a rich source of beta carotene antioxidant and provides essential trace minerals Seaweed (Natural) is rich in iodine and rare trace elements Yucca Extract which is a natural deodouriser
Also added is: Antioxidants - Natural Vitamin E Vitamins - A, D, E, and B Complex Prebiotics - Chicory, rich in inulin which aids in maintaining health gut flora Minerals - Calcium, Phosphorus, Zinc, Magnesium and Selenium for a healthy immune system
WE HAVE ALSO BEEN UTILISING, AS AN EXPERIMENT “AUTARKY ADULT” PURELY BECAUSE IT IS HYPOALLERGENIC AND HAS A “HIGH” VEGETABLE CONTENT.
