MELCLARE MAGGIE FOR DENROB (aka Molly)
On 3rd June 2005, our faithful, loving protector Molly was involved in a RTA. Although shocked, and suffering a broken front leg, she was certainly alive when she was rushed to my local vet. There she was given immediate pain relief and X-rayed which confirmed her fracture. As it was a Friday my vet said he would get an immediate referral to the Queens College Hospital in Cambridge, where she could be monitored over the weekend and probably operated on, the following Monday. Fine. Molly was out of pain, though definitely in shock, and I transported her to Cambridge.
She was admitted at 3.30 PM. I was told everything would be fine, that they would monitor her over the weekend and re assess her Sunday or Monday for surgery.
I said good-bye to her through absolute streaming tears and left on the 3 hour drive home, something I can never forgive myself for, nor would I do again.
Unbeknown to me, the vet there, in her infinite wisdom, decided to operate that night - without my permission - and Molly passed away under the anaesthetic, totally alone, in a strange environment surrounded by strangers and still in shock.
Since then I have been given THREE explanations as to her death.
Molly was a Melclare girl, absolutely beautiful, spoilt rotten and so faithful to me. She had a bad temper with other strange dogs, but that was it. She was my dog no one else’s.
Our grief is immense and unending to this day. We miss her every day. I have her ashes by my bed and still talk to her. It gives me comfort, small, but something.
We know now there is no way of replacing her and will feel this grief forever. It just seems to be getting harder with time rather than easier.
We recently received a settlement on Molly which was immediately donated to a local dog/cat rescue centre in her memory.
We were asked not to publicise the amount suffice to say it was satisfactory.
I know Molly is with us always.
I miss you Molly - everyday my baby.
Your girl Emma and your grand daughter are doing fine, don’t worry.
