Our Man Max. Faithful, not complaining, protective naturally and so loving it’s untrue. He is not an “in yer face” chow, but rather laid back and sedate.
He loves his girls here now; as there was a time, when his first and only partner Molly passed away, we thought we were going to loose him too.
He missed her so much and even the introduction of other ladies for him didn’t reawaken his interest in life and especially reproduction; until the arrival of Rio.
It seems that Rio certainly reawakened his flame, and since then there has been no stopping him. His flame has burned bright ever since. When a girl is in season, Max is there and willing.
So...it seemed RIO reawakened his desire in life itself. And why not she is a stunner. They actually self mated without any interference from me, and managed to produce a single puppy - Kipps. Since then they have had a further litter of 4 pups, with JACK remaining her with us. We are so taken with Jack that he WILL enter the show ring when we feel he is ready.
Rio needed a cesarian to deliver Kipps as he was an only pup he was laying across her cervix as she was in labour. When the vet operated on her, he was surprised she even conceived as she had one thick; and apparently sealed stricture that needed breaking down, so how it happened, Lord only knows, but it did.
Max is extremely gentle and especially tolerant with the others here. He now perceives the girls here as his “harem” and why the hell not. He is happy and healthy, exercised (as they all are) every day without fail rain or shine.
Max has been described as an “older generation of chow” because of his breeding lines, but that means bugger all to me these days. He is HEALTHY and content end of story and that is what counts.
Max will be 11 years old this November 2010 He is getting on, but still finds time - occasionally - for a game of “chase me” with ALL of the
others, the boys included.
HE IS THE KING AND THEY ALL KNOW IT.
I cannot imagine life without Max. He is my boy and I love him dearly.
