HEALTH

DENROB CHOW CHOWS

banner 5

A lot of breeders have asked, “by what right do you have in publishing health reports”, apparently they are “none of my business”, well to be frank, I laugh at their idiosyncrasies I really do!

As a breeder who has ALWAYS striven for HEALTH over Exhibition accolades it automatically becomes my business as well as the business of every other BREEDER OF CHOW CHOWS here in the U.K.

If the breeders who produce hip dysplasic puppies, E.P.I. puppies, V.K.H. Puppies, Monorchid Puppies, Myotonic Puppies, Entropic Puppies - the list is completely ENDLESS, time and time again AND WILL NOT ADDRESS their own failures and health reports then where exactly will the breed get?

IF OUR OWN CHOW CHOW BREED COUNCIL WILL NOT DISCUSS AND DISSEMINATE THESE HEALTH ISSUES FOR THE BENEFIT OF EVERYONE AS THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE SINCE THE COUNCIL WAS FIRST CREATED, THEN WHERE WILL THE BREED GET? AILMENTS WILL CONTINUE UNABATED. WE NEED A COUNCIL THAT ACTUALLY KNOWS WHAT THE HELL THEY ARE DOING AND WHAT IS EXPECTED OF THEM. FOR TOO MANY YEARS THEY HAVE HAD IT TOO EASY.

Genetically defective puppies are sold to other breeders again and again and then introduced into their own breeding programs who then go on to produce the afflictions time and time again. It never ends.

MISREPRESENTATION ON HEALTH ISSUES MUST STOP pure and simple.

I, along with many others, are fed up to the back teeth of picking up the pieces of others failures.

And when I see a kennel like Lechan, with over thirty years of breeding experience, continuing a breeding line that has produced no less than THREE genetic ailments SO FAR, (that we know about and MORE IMPORTANTLY, can PROVE) then I take TOTAL OFFENCE. So should every other breeder in the country.

HEALTH ISSUES ARE EVERY COMMITTED BREEDERS CONCERN AND SHOULD BE PUBLISHED FOR THE BENEFIT OF EVERY BREEDER IN THE COUNTRY AS WELL AS THE BREED AS A WHOLE AND NOT JUST TO SCANDALISE ONE IN PARTICULAR.

Important note: THE CONDITIONS LISTED HERE ENCOMPASS ALL CANINES AND NOT JUST CHOW CHOWS
SOME CONDITIONS ARE MORE PREVALENT TO SOME PEDIGREE BREEDS AND CROSS BREEDS THAN OTHERS.

I am not an authority on many conditions listed here. I am not a vet or a geneticist and have NEVER professed to be either.
They are here for your guidance only and should not be misinterpreted that I have actually experienced any of them.

I am, like others, learning all the time and only endeavour to inform and not diagnose.

It is not my intent to alarm or scaremonger any owner and I am not saying that these conditions will manifest themselves within your chow

But:

I am a great believer in: A little knowledge goes a long way especially with the condition “BLOAT”.

No matter how rare the condition I believe all CANINE owners deserve to know at least something about them.

As with each species there are genetic flaws that will manifest from time to time. Humans are no different from canines in that respect.

The information is given here freely on medical conditions now known to “possibly” and I must stress “possibly” affect ALL CANINES.

They certainly have been reported in the past no matter how rare.

They are here to aid owners as well as breeders, along with your vet to draw your own determinations, diagnosis and conclusions!
