About Us

Denrob Chows has been in existence since 2004 when out first chow Molly produced her very first litter of puppies.

These days we prefer not to exhibit our chow chows. Too much jealousy, back stabbing and gossip for our liking. Mind you we have been known to change our minds - occasionally.

OUR CHOWSAll of our chows live indoors with us which can mean things get a little cramped and getting to the kitchen to make a cup of tea is sometimes impossible, but fun negotiating the snoring sleepy heads.

Our chows are run as a pack.  They are not segregated from each other in any way. We have kennels we call “sin bins” and when someone really is naughty, to the sin bin they go, for about an hour, then back into the population.

All know their place and all get along fine, even when we have three boys running after one girl in season. For some reason only known to them they never fight over mating rites!

There are sometimes slight squabbles, usually over someone sleeping in another’s favourite place, but even then it’s nothing, they prefer to play or poke the offender with a paw to get them to shift, than show teeth and snarl.

They act like a pack and play like a pack and they all know it is us that are the leaders. When the doorbell goes all hell breaks loose but only to get there first and see who it is. They have the freedom to roam securely in any place inside or out on the property. Wo betide a stranger that wants to jump the fence though.

Our Values: Kennel Club Codes Of Ethics:  (CLICK HERE FOR LISTING)
We follow these codes to the letter especially codes 6 and 14.
Quite simply, we believe in them.
These codes are designed to aid the breeder, breed clubs and breed councils in the welfare of their breeding and exhibiting of pedigree dogs AS WELL AS the Chow Chow breed as a whole.
They are supposed to be adhered to strictly by others but sadly there are exceptions which have increased the occurrences of EPI, HD and VKH to name just three of many.

We have found & proven that codes 6 and 14 to be the ones most ignore.

Breeding:
We have NEVER line or inbred our chow chows, NEVER! and our track record, so far has only ever produced 2 poorly puppies. Namely CLEO & PHOEBE

Sadly Cleo passed as a result of E.P.I and Phoebe has the PROVEN condition of V.K.H. Like Syndrome who is, thankfully, now on the minimum of medications needed for a safe and ailment free life.

AS SOON AS WE WERE INFORMED OF CLEO’S CONDITION, NEITHER PARENT WAS MATED HERE AGAIN BY US, though in recent times there has been a lot of unfounded gossip regarding this.
Another reason we have decided to pull away from all things breed council and breed club related!

Cleo’s owners are now the proud parents of a further 2 chows we were instrumental in producing and Phoebe is safe with her human parents and 2 chow chow companions.
They both KNOW we are just a phone call away.

As a breeder I couldn’t be more happy with the outcomes in both cases and we have made 2 families a part of our family here and are PROUD to call them “dear friends”.

The Breed Council have always stated that V.K.H, does NOT affect the chow chow until one of their own members with over 30+ years of experience produced one too.

Only then did they pull out all the stops in trying to DISPROVE it instead of investigating further. Beggars belief!

Public Relations: Here with us, our highest priority is satisfied owners of healthy pups that grow into fine and sturdy companions.
We breed to the Kennel Clubs Breed Standards for health and exhibition without exception, but we ourselves cannot make any guarantee as to the health of any puppy produced here, only the safe and secure knowledge that:
1. We will offer every assistance to every owner wherever possible.
2. We will never turn our backs on a poorly chow whether born here with us or elsewhere.
3. We will always report all health issues to the Kennel Club direct.
4. We will always answer the telephone
5. We will always answer e-mails
6. We will help anyone wherever possible.

What we won’t do!
1. We will never deal in non pedigree puppies.
2. We will not aid anyone in the production of puppies where health is not paramount.
3. We have little interest in the show ring other than as spectators.
4. We will not hide any genetic ailments any of our puppies may develop.
5. We have never line bred our dogs. The show ring is NOT our goal.
6. We have never inbred our dogs. The show ring is NOT our goal.

In recent times we have become so disillusioned with the Chow Chow breeders here in the
U.K. and their lack of BASIC common sense in repeating mating’s that go on to produce various genetic ailments which are then sold on to the general public

When something goes wrong, no response from anyone especially the breeders
themselves, only threats of “involving the police”.
I am of the firm belief that I would EXPECT MORE from long standing breeders with over 30+ years of experience! who have a high input to the Breed Council.

IT ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE OTHER GENUINE AND CARING BREEDERS THAT ARE LEFT TO PICK UP THE PIECES OF OTHERS MISTAKES, TIME AND TIME AGAIN.

We have had many an argument with the chow chow breed council over this and are extremely saddened that they will do nothing to act upon this kind of breeding. They say there is nothing that they can do, when in point of fact there IS.

1. Inform and more importantly ADVISE the breeders of the dangers of repeating mating’s with either parent again in writing.

2. Advise their member breed clubs to refuse entries to their shows until they prove they have acted upon the information received. (Most breeders live for the show ring and this would send the message to ALL that there ARE things the Breed Council are prepared to do!)

3. BE THE FIRST TO compile a PUBLIC DATA BASE on all health reports and the actions each breeder took in ensuring all help was given and what that breeder did to stem the ailment. (Public confidence within the chow chow is at an all time low, this can only HELP!)

We have, in the past, sent in many a health report from owners here in the U.K. that they have not even had the decency to address at their meetings, OR even offer the courtesy of a reply to those concerned owners which has led us to the conclusion that they really do NOT know what the hell they are doing and nor do they “appear” to care!

We ourselves are still awaiting a response regarding Phoebe and V.K.H Syndrome that we reported over FOUR YEARS AGO!

It is the general public who purchase these puppies from PROVEN contaminated lines where the health history is definitely misrepresented

Because of breeder attitudes to this kind of line and in breeding we have decided to pull away totally from their circles and in future no puppies born here will be registered with the Kennel Club although proof of lineage/pedigree will obviously be produced, given and verified.
It would seem that the K.C, are just as bad and will NOT act against this kind of willful negligent breeding when compelling and overwhelming evidence is produced.

So I have decided that whilst I agree with their codes of ethics totally and will always adhere to them, I will NOT aid in expanding their coffers again UNTIL they show and prove to everyone that they really are concerned enough to actually DO something against these misrepresented breeding lines.

Sadly, even we, at this stage, cannot guarantee that any genetic flaws will not crop up, purely due to the actions of these stoic line and inbreeders of today and especially of the past that have indeed compounded a LOT of health issues by their actions which are only now being felt today.

What we CAN and WILL guarantee is that we will HELP any owner of ANY affected chow chow as best we can whether they were born here with us or not.

You are important to us and you can expect us to go the extra mile for your problems.

Wherever possible HEALTH has always been the hallmark of Denrob Chows.
